New Hope Presbyterian Church
Our New Building

We're grateful for our new place of worship. The hard work, perseverance, and generosity of many people within and outside the congregation helped to make our dream a reality. Our first worship service was celebrated on June 20, 1999, before a crowd of nearly 100 people. Cars kept pulling into the parking lot, and we had to add extra chairs to accommodate everyone. Many people who no longer live in the area returned to see this dream finally realized.

The path to this joyous event began May 18, 1986, when the church's founding members celebrated the first service on the patio of the home of a local family. After holding both worship services and Sunday school in private homes, the congregation began meeting at Laytonsville Elementary School, then later shared space with the Olney Seventh Day Adventists.

Our 6,000-square foot building features four classrooms, three offices, a kitchen and a multi-purpose room used as a sanctuary. We are on the top of a beautiful hill on 11 acres of land, which adjoins nearby park land.

We plan to use the building to serve the community and continue the mission programs already in place, including assisting Olney HELP, Laytonsville Haven, Women's Shelter,The Community Angels program and the annual Alternative Gift Market. The official dedication of the building took place on the weekend of September 11 and 12. The weekend featured activities for the entire community and a formal dedication service on Sunday.
