As a Christian family, New Hope Presbyterians strive to be at home with Christ and at work in the world. We have discerned that God’s vision is for us to be growing in faith, serving neighbors in need, and making a difference in the world. New Hope’s Sunday worship is at 11:00am. During the summer months (June, July, and August) we worship at 10:00am. Special services are held at various times throughout the year including Easter Sunrise, Maundy Thursday, and Christmas Eve.
As one of our affirmations so clearly states, we are a people-oriented congregation. Family is an important part of our faith and our service has a focus passing our belief in our children. Our children take an active role in our worship as acolytes bringing the light of Christ into our service and reminding us to take the light of Christ with us into the world. Our service includes a Children’s Message led by the Pastor or a member of our congregation. The second Sunday of each month our puppets bring the word of God through the Children’s Message. After the Children’s Message, preschool and elementary age children are invited to attend Children’s Worship in one our classrooms.
Communion is celebrated, most often on the first Sunday of the month, and on Maundy Thursday and other occasions when the community wants to affirm the place Christ makes for us at His table.
Christ is the head of our church. As part of the Presbyterian Church, USA, we inherit the polity and traditions of a rich heritage. We’re part of a regional body called National Capital Presbytery. The Presbytery is comprised of many congregations in MD, DC, and VA. Decisions related to governing of New Hope rest with the New Hope Session, comprised of the Pastor and ruling elders. The congregation annually elects ruling elders for a three-year term of service. Session meets at least monthly and has oversight of all aspects of the life of the congregation. |
